Sitting in McDonalds Leytonstone and saw in the car park a bird I personally have never seen before (a small sparrow like black and white bird). Looked on your site and I'm pretty sure it was a female Pied Wagtail. Hopefully its a good thing that I have seen it and not instead because they are suffering in their usual environments. Saw a pretty Robin too that day so all in all quite chuffed (pardon the pun)

Got at least 2 robins visit my garden daily. 2 male bullfinches and one female. Lots of goldfinches on front garden since i found "Niger" seed. 1 greater spotted woodpecker. One greenfinch was coming but I think the nasty but beautiful Sparrowhawk had him for lunch :-(. Absolutely loving watching birds from my house....my partner says i spend more feeding the birds than him hehe

We have a Dunnock nesting in our hedge, but spends all it's time bobbing from branch to branch on a bush next to our fish pond. It gives us a perfect view all day from the patio doors. Never seen one before, lucky for us it's chosen to reside with us.

Recently put up a peanut feeder alongside a seed feeder I have had in a hedge for 3 years. Just seen a female Greater Spotted Woodpecker at the nuts for the furst time. A charming and enjoyable sight. Wild life preservation is essential and gives back moments of joy.

Live near busy road in Paignton in upstairs flat. This afternoon had a kestrel sitting on our veranda railings for about 5 minutes. What a beautiful bird. Not seen it here before.

On Sunday morning we were lucky enough to have a beautiful male Bull Finch visit our garden. I've never seen one all the years I have been here. He stayed for a good 30 minutes, first on the crab apple tree then to the feeder.Times like that I wish I had a decent camera to capture the moment.

I'm surprised at the concern about low sightings of Goldfinches. Here in my Kent garden I have a flock or 'charm' of more than dozen through most of the day, every day. A couple of pairs have nested in a separate part of the garden annually but I made no special feeding provision. However, this late summer and autumn (2011) I set up two four-way Niger feeders. Immediately I noticed adults and young 'greypates' beginning to use them. Now there are so many around they fight to secure a feeder perch. Others happily feed on fallen seed on the ground below. For an abundance of Goldies I suggest Haiths Goldfinch Mix which is primarily niger and teasel plus some other tiny delicacies. Your garden will be buzzing! David

We've had a Nuthatch in the garden since August (it's now mid Oct.). Is breeding known this far north, or is it still "visiting"?
