What a brilliant resource. I decided to follow the birds that fly over where I live every evening and find out where they roost. I'm glad I did - there must have been three or four hundred noisy black-birds in the tops of only about ten trees. Really quite an impressive sight. I had presumed they were rooks, but after seeing them coming in to roost I wasn't so sure. Thanks to your recordings I now know they're jackdaws! So thanks very much!

At dawn today I noticed a large black black bird sitting fluffed up in the tree nearby.Possibly a crow. 4 hours later it was stil there. Another bird same type alighted next to "him" smooth feathers "she" fanned her tail talking to him.Eventually he hopped around the twigs. I went out to them with bread, held up my hand sowing them it and threw it onto the ground. Ilooked from my window, both birds ate the bread ,one flew to a tree next to the main road the other walked across the gard then across the main road. It must be in a garden because I can hear the other calling it.Ithought it may be a young bird learning to fly and it did not know about traffic, But Ibelieve it is too early for breeding.. I hope it flies.soon. The RSPCA will probably not help in this case as it is a crow I think. I can hear the one still calling to the other .Very dicconcerting.

My husband and I watched for over an hour a Sparrowhawak at on our fence. At one stage an unsuspecting Robin appeared but soon flew away when the Sparrowhawk went to attack. This sis the second showing to our knowledge in the past six weeks of this Sparrowhawk in our garden. Previously he did manage to kill a sparrow feeding on the ground.

I have lived in my house for over 39 years and for the first time ever, I have seen at least 2 Redwing eating the berries on my holly tree. It is a very large tree with thousands of berries, which mostly get taken by collared doves in Nov/Dec. My resident blackbirds, unusually, have been taking them for a few days. Yesterday, the Redwings appeared, fought off the Blackbirds and stripped the tree. One returned today searching out the last few. I doubt that I will see them again. QUESTION SOMETHING WAS MOVING THE STEMS OF MY ROSE BUSHES AI THE BOTTOM OF THE GARDEN. I COULDN'T SEE WHAT. wOULD REDWINGS EAT THE ROSE HIPS? DOES ANYONE KNOW?

I have been watching a Fieldfare in our smallish garden nearly all day. First thing this morning I had 12 male blackbirds and 2 females all feeding in my garden. Which I thought was a bit fantastic in itself but then by lunchtime the Fieldfare had seen them all off the middle of my lawn. I have had a very amusing day watching the Fieldfare chase them all off and the blackbirds also chasing each other. At one time a wren, blue tit, robin and goldfinch all appeared just to add to my excitement!!. It's lovely to see. Our housing estate is 10 years old and it is only in recent years the birds have returned. Even a friend of mine who isn't really into birds was interested in the Fieldfares antics!! She admitted she thought it would have been a thrush - but it definitely wasn't. I have seen 3 Fieldfares fairly close together over the last few days.

Just before the snow came I put out some seeds, nuts and a fat cake so that my young children might see some birds. We glimpsed one or two, bur since the snow we are regularly visited by a dozen at a time. Blue tits, Great tits, Chaffinchs, Robins, a Blackbird, a Trush and even a Woodpecker. The children are so excited trying to spot the different birds everytime we look out of the window, I am delighted by the results.

Hi, Along with a good selection of normal British birds in my garden. We have been visited by beautiful Redwings and Fieldfares. Unfortunately we have had three Redwings fly into our kitchen window and die. We have some trees out front with red berries. The birds seem to love them.

I feed the birds manic stile. In the mordning about 7-30 I can have up to 20 blackbirds as I feed them first with mixed dried fruit, they seem to be there earlier than all other birds. Then I do a mixed feed for the others. I get the cheapest scone from the super markets which they all love along with bird seed and meal worms. Yesterday 3 field fares arrived and took over one of my feeding places. they are very territorial. but theres plenty for every one I get such enjoyment from feedng

I am new to this site and came upon it trying to find information about cuckoos. I have been sitting at my window after putting dried fruit suet chopped apple and porage oats out on the patio. I also have numerous feeders with mixed seed and sunflower hearts. Today I have seen 11 goldfinches on one feeder at one time Also a young cuckoo eating everything in site and chasing the blackbirds away. It does not seem to mind any of the other birds. So far this morning I have had crows a wren bluetits greenfinches a thrush chaffinches pigeons blackbirds gulls sparrows goldfinches robins a sparrowhawk a long tailed tit and a coal tit. I feel truly blessed to have these beautiful birds visit my garden. Thank you for letting me share this with you

I have recently moved to this part of the country & have been delighted of late to see 3 bullfinches in my garden(2 males + 1 female/youngster). As the leaves have fallen from the ornamental cherry on which they seem to be feeding,I can see them quite clearly. The orange/peach colour of the males is quite lovely. They arrive at about 8 am and remain there for some time.
